The home of surf hats, beanies and bucket hats
An outdoor lifestyle is where it’s at, right? But sun, wind and bad hair days mean you shouldn’t step out without a hat or cap. Good thing Freeride Surf & Skate is New Zealand’s home of styles to get you through every season. So whether you prefer to get around on two wheels or on a board, we’ve got all the apparel and accessories you need.
Some of our best-sellers include surf brand caps and wide-brim surf hats. Cool and casual, a wide-brim surf hat protects your head, face and neck. Keep it old-school with a straw hat or bucket hat design. Throw them in your surf bag and keep them close by for whenever you climb out of the swell.

Hats and caps - the questions you’re asking
Why are sun hats important?
We don’t need to lecture you on the dangers of UV rays, but we are here to remind you to put on a hat. Look for hats that protect the whole face, head, ears and ideally the back of the neck. Sun hats can reduce the amount of UV that reaches the eyes by 50%, which is exactly what we need when summer rolls around.
Can caps be washed?
Keep your caps looking clean and fresh with a regular wash (dirt and sweat stains aren’t a good look.) Check the care label before you start. Hand-washing is usually the way to go, but if your cap’s care label says it’s fine to toss it in the washing machine, go for it! Just be sure to follow the instructions to help maintain its shape and colour.
What caps are in fashion?
Right now, we can’t get enough of caps that don’t take themselves too seriously. Salty Crew and Mad Hueys, we’re looking at you. Epic designs and conversation-starting graphics are taking over, and fun always comes first. We’re seeing some vintage throwback styles, too, with details like embroidered eyelets and corduroy giving our caps a playful feel.
