MR surfboards: The legacy in action

Mark Richards Surfboards is the brainchild of none other than legendary 4 times world surfing champ Mark Richards. MR Surfboards are collectables you can ride or hang on the wall. The different designs range from replicas of the boards Mark dominated on through the 70s and 80s as well as a selection of more modern shapes. 

Throughout his life, Mark had two career paths: pro surfing and shaping. He worked with huge influences in the shaping world, including Geoff McCoy, Ben Aipa, Jim Richardson, and the one that helped change it all - Dick Brewer.

Mark is best known for his retro series of twin fins and singles that are usually lit up with electric sprays and colours reminiscent of the golden era of surfing.

The Mark Richards surfboard and the twin fin

Although the concept of the twin fin board was around way before, Mark Richards was the person to develop the idea into an actual board - not just a design feature. Working with Dick Brewer to hone his shaping ability, Mark brought the original twin-fin surfboard model into existence in 1978 - a 6’2” wing-swallow tail.

Since then, the twin fin has continued to evolve, earning itself a space in modern surf culture for surfers that want to balance performance surfing with speedy fun out there. The first MR surfboard became known as the “Freeride Twin Fin” - a great name, we reckon - and Mark describes it as “fast” and “incredible manoeuvrable”.
