Is it the season for spring wetsuits, NZ?
What do the kids wear when it’s too hot for a full wetsuit but too cold for standard swimwear? Enter kids’ spring suits. Usually worn during transitional seasons like spring and autumn, boys’ and girls’ springsuits help keep the little ones in the water all year round.
Most spring suits feature short arms and legs, but you can find some ¾ and full-length arm varieties too. Ultimately, springsuits provide just enough coverage while keeping the arms and legs free and ready for action.
Kids’ spring suits + more surf gear
If your kids love the waves just as much (or more!) as you, you can help them live out their passion and advance their skills with the right gear. That starts with boys' and girls’ spring suits by the brands that have been tried and tested by us at Freeride. A quality suit can mean the difference between giving up and becoming a force of nature on the waves.
When the colder months roll around, consider upgrading to a full-length kids’ steamer. These staple wetsuits keep the core warm, so surf sessions don’t have to be cut short in cold water.
Give them that pro feeling
Wherever they’re at, pro gear can give children the confidence boost to pursue their passion. Kit them out with Freeride’s range of quality spring wetsuits in NZ, available to buy online or in our West Auckland Surf & Skate Store.
Not sure where to start? With so many brands, styles and thicknesses on offer, buying a wetsuit can get confusing. Luckily, our team knows their stuff. Use our 24/7 chat feature or call 09 835 9275 for a helping hand.
Boys’ and girls’ springsuits - the questions you’re asking
What’s the difference between a wetsuit and a springsuit?
The main difference between a wetsuit and a springsuit is length. A springsuit is essentially a wetsuit that can be worn during spring and autumn, as it generally has short arms and legs. A wetsuit - or a steamer - on the other hand features full-length arms and legs and is mostly suited for cold-water activities.
Should kids wear anything under a springsuit?
What goes underneath the springsuit is down to the individual. Some people choose to wear underwear or swimwear under their springsuit, while others wear nothing at all. For extra sun protection, you might prefer kids to wear a long-sleeve top under their springsuit.
What thickness springsuit is right for kids?
The thickness of springsuits can range from 1mm to around 3mm, while full-length wetsuits are usually available in thicker styles. Remember that the thicker the suit, the warmer it’ll be (and the trickier to get in and out of!) Get in touch with Freeride for one-on-one advice—we know buying a springsuit online can be confusing.
