Summer wetsuits vs spring suits, steamers & other wetsuits
Each wetsuit is designed to suit a purpose, whether that’s summer surfing, winter adventures or something in between. So what’s the difference between a summer wet suit and other types of suits on the market?
The biggest point of difference is thickness. Men’s summer wetsuits generally have a neoprene thickness of 3mm or less. Both winter and summer wetsuits can be designed with long or short arms and legs - don’t assume a springy is automatically made for hot weather just because it has short arms and short legs.
Steamers, springers and cold-weather wetsuits tend to have more seams and taping for strength and better water tightness. Plus, your summer wetsuit is likely to have less or no lining. The goal is for lightness on the skin and flexibility of movement.
