Phantom description 2018 from pyzel surfboards on Vimeo.

When we first brought out the Ghost we had no idea that it’s unique design would come to be embraced by so many people in so many different types of waves. However, the one bit of feedback we kept hearing was that it was that it works best in waves shoulder-high and up, so we looked at making a step-down board that would bring that same feel to the head-high and under days that make up most of our daily surf sessions.

The Phantom is a Ghost squashed down, souped up, and with added volume, great for your everyday sessions in less than epic conditions.

We left the same Ghost rocker but added more single concave to flatten it out through the center, helping to create speed and flow without taking away from the overall performance or feel of the original design.

The added width in the tail and nose create a more parallel, fuller outline that helps keep speed up through slower sections and tight turns.

The rails are full but not chunky, giving you more floatation and speed without taking away the sensitivity that we all love in our boards.

Best in waist-high to slightly overhead waves of all types the Phantom is your daily driver with a high performance edge.

Customer Comment:

Picked up a Pyzel Phantom last week to be my new daily driver. I am 6ft nothing, about 80kg (give or take a few every now and again) and bought the 5'11" stock phantom (31 lts). Prior to that I was riding a 5'11" Sci Fi at over 32 lts.

First thing is the build quality of this board. I am in NZ so mine came from the Aus factory. It is immaculate in it's glassing. They really did do an awesome job. It seems to be lighter than my sci fi as well which I didn't expect. The shape is just what you expect from the photos - makes you want to go and ride it straight away but you can mind surf the crap out of it in your living room all non surfing times. The only issue I had was a bit of resin had seeped into one fin box which I had to chip out to get a fin in. A bit of an annoyance when buying a brand new board but I could see how it was easily overlooked.

Paddle ability is good. No worse than the sci fi and this is with a drop in volume.

I should probably note here that I am not a great surfer. I am probably intermediate, working on snaps and power turns but definitely not getting it right the whole time. I was worried when I first got the board that the rails looked even more HP than the sci fi, even though the sci fi is said to have quite HP rails. However, this thing is smoother than smooth. The sci fi seemed to catch me off guard every now and again and over steer or bog a rail when you didn't expect it to. The Phantom on the other hand was perfect. The sweet spot seems to be large enough that it helps you prevent kooking late drops or bad balance positioning on turns but also allows you to tweak it for speed or to hammer a turn off the tail. I didn't find the rocker to be restrictive at all, it was quite similar to the sci fi when laying them side by side but seemed a lot lighter when generating speed and adjusting weight to move up and down the wave. I found speed generation easy on this board. So much so that I found myself wanting to try an air on a few closeouts. None of them worked mind, but the board made me think it was possible then and there without any thinking about doing it before hand.

All in all this board is epic. I have been out in waist high to 1.5OH in the last week with it and it has dealt with it all great. It gives so much more confidence when taking off on a wave than my sci fi I found myself in deeper positions than I would be usually.

It makes me want a Ghost...don't tell the wife!

Thanks, Jon P
