Introducing the Pyzel Phantom Squash Tail Surfboard - Pyzel Surfboards’ step-down version of John John Florence’s favourite Ghost, built to bring that same trusted feel into the smaller everyday conditions that make up most surf sessions. The Phantom keeps a high-performance edge but shifts the focus toward speed, flow, and added forgiveness when the waves are less than epic.
The Phantom is a Ghost squashed down, souped up, and with added volume, great for everyday sessions in head-high and under surf. Pyzel left the same Ghost rocker but added more single concave to flatten it out through the centre, helping to create speed and flow without taking away from the overall performance or feel of the original design. Added width in the tail and nose creates a more parallel, fuller outline that helps keep speed up through slower sections and tight turns, while the rails are full but not chunky, giving more floatation and speed without taking away the sensitivity that surfers love in their boards.

Surfboard Performance
The Pyzel Phantom is designed as a daily driver with a high-performance edge, bringing the familiar feel of the Ghost into waist-high to slightly overhead waves of all types. The added volume and flatter centre help the board generate speed and maintain flow through softer sections, while the fuller outline carries momentum without feeling sluggish. Even with the extra width and float, the Phantom keeps the responsive sensitivity of the original design, making it a reliable option for tight turns and everyday performance surfing when conditions are head-high and under.
Recommended Surf Conditions
Best suited to waist-high to slightly overhead waves across everyday beach breaks, softer points, and mixed conditions where maintaining speed is key. The Phantom comes into its own when the surf has flatter sections or less push but you still want a board that feels lively underfoot. In New Zealand, that makes it a strong fit for average Piha days or fun Mount Maunganui runners where a little extra flow and easy speed go a long way.
