Introducing The DHD MF Lightning - One of those once-in-a-lifetime boards that earns a permanent place in the rack. Born from Mick Fanning’s original CT-winning DNA model, the MF Lightning keeps the same proven foundation but has been fine-tuned for more everyday spark.
Mick worked closely with Darren post-retirement to create a faster, sharper version that thrives in smaller, weaker surf but still holds its own when things get bigger but lack push. The Lightning is still in the MF family, but every tweak was made to add speed and precision without losing control.
Surfboard Features
Outline – Narrower squash tail with no hip for added control at high speed. The nose is slightly narrower with extra flip.
Tail – Narrower squash tail with no hip, providing added control while surfing at speed.
Fin Placement – Refined nose design fits into hollow, curved wave faces without catching.
Foam & Rails – Flattened deck to add foam under the chest, combined with dropped rails for sensitivity.
Rocker – Same tail rocker as the DNA, but straightened between the feet for more speed. Increased nose lift helps the board fit tight in the pocket and avoid catching through tight turns.
Concave – Flatter under the front foot for instant acceleration, with a deep single concave between the fins for extra lift and speed. Almost a full single concave throughout.
Surfboard Performance
The MF Lightning feels fast, sharp, and lively underfoot, generating instant speed and holding through turns without washing speed off. It thrives in weaker-to-medium waves where that extra “get up and go” makes all the difference, staying reactive and precise in the pocket for crisp arcs and tight wraps.
Thanks to the narrower tail and refined rails, the Lightning maintains control even at high speeds, giving you the confidence to push harder in smaller or softer conditions. It generates instant speed down the line, fits tight in the pocket, and feels lively and reactive on smaller days
Recommended Surf Conditions
Wave Size-1–4ft. Can work in bigger waves if conditions are soft or lack power. Conditions- Smaller, weaker surf where generating speed is important. It can also handle bigger conditions when the waves lack push. Performance- Fast, sharp, and reactive, with the design focused on creating speed in weaker waves while maintaining control.
